DESCRIPTION:The Americans with Disabilities Act and Your Business Today: Myths and Realities\n\nFebruary 21\, 2019\n\n11:30 - 1:00\n\nThe Chamber Board Room\n\nLunch provided courtesy of Tcherneshoff Consulting\, Inc.\n\n\n\nHear from Kirk Tcherneshoff of Tcherneshoff Consulting about the responsibilities of businesses under the ADA and what business owners can do to comply with the law\, save money\, and avoid costly litigation.\n\n\n\nSpeaker:\n\nMr. Tcherneshoff was injured in a motor vehicle accident in the summer of 1977 and has been a quadriplegic since that time. He uses a power wheelchair for mobility purposes. In the mid and late 1980's Mr. Tcherneshoff spearheaded a group of students\, counselors\, and educators to help make the campus of the University of Alabama in Birmingham more accessible under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The name of the group was F.O.R.C.E.S (Fellowship of Rehabilitation Counselors\, Educators\, and Students). The group was very instrumental in bringing awareness to the university about the need for accessibility on campus from a structural standpoint and in how classes needed to be modified for certain individuals with different types of disabilities. Since that time he has continued to be very active in Alabama and nationally to help shape accessibility guidelines.\n\n\n\nIn 1997 Kirk Tcherneshoff started Tcherneshoff Consulting Inc. Tcherneshoff Consulting has surveyed over 3000 facilities to date in more than 35 states and across virtually every type of industry subject to Title II and Title III of the ADA. Mr. Tcherneshoff has inspected many high profile Title II facilities including the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center\, The city of Huntsville Alabama\, and Arkansas State University to include their stadium. Mr. Tcherneshoff has also inspected several other large stadium-type venues such as the Talladega and Daytona International Motor Speedways\, and Churchhill Downs.\n\n\n\nToday Mr. Tcherneshoff is frequently requested to work with Civil Engineers\, Architects and contractors on large projects around the United States to ensure compliance as the building process unfolds. He stays ahead of the curve staying in close touch with the U.S. Access Board and DOJ to follow the latest in diagnostic equipment for medical facilities and other issues. He is the expert in one of the largest dental facility claims ever made in the United States.
