SUMMARY:Veterans Upward Bound(VUB) & Birmingham Vet Center Workshop at Gadsden State
DESCRIPTION:Gadsden State's Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program will host a workshop with the Birmingham Vet Center from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. June 6th in Beck Field House\, room 140\, on the Wallace Drive Campus. The workshop will focus on veterans transitioning from military life to civilian life.\n\n\n\nIn addition to the workshop\, the Birmingham Vet Center will also have the Mobile Vet Center (MVC) on campus from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.. The Birmingham Vet Center provides a broad range of counseling\, outreach and referral services to combat veterans and their families as well as assistance in coping with many of the major adjustments in lifestyle that often occur after a veteran returns from combat.\n\n\n\nServices for a veteran may include individual and group counseling in areas such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)\, alcohol and drug assessment and suicide prevention referrals. All services are free and strictly confidential.\n\n\n\nThe MVCs of the Department of Veterans Affairs provide services similar to those as community-based centers to veterans across the country. These include readjustment counseling and information resources that focus on helping veterans make the often difficult transition between military and civilian life.\n\n\n\nMilitary veterans residing in Blount\, Calhoun\, Cherokee\, Cleburne\, DeKalb\, Etowah\, Jefferson\, Marshall\, St. Clair or Talladega counties are invited to take advantage of the free services offered through VUB a TRiO program funded 100 percent by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Enrollment at Gadsden State or any other college or university is not mandatory in order to participate.\n\n\n\n For more information or to see if you are eligible to receive free services to help you continue your education contact the VUB Office at 256-549-8286/8328 or emailvub@gadsdenstate.edu.
