This annual conference is designed to inspire and empower women to advance to higher levels of leadership professionally and personally. The day will include workshops, speakers, and programs designed especially for women aspiring to leadership by women in leadership. This year's conference will be both high-energy and informative.
The Advancing Women to the Top 2019 Keynote Speaker is Mrs. Katie Britt. Katie Boyd Britt was born and raised in Enterprise, Alabama. She attended The University of Alabama and earned a B.A. in Political Science and Blount Liberal Arts. Upon graduation she moved to Washington, DC, to work for United States Senator Richard Shelby. She began as his Deputy Press Secretary and ultimately became his Press Secretary, serving as the head of his press department. At 23 years of age, Katie was the youngest in her role on the Senate side of Capitol Hill. After working on the Hill, she served as Special Assistant to the President for University of Alabama President, Robert E. Witt.
Katie went on to earn her law degree at The University of Alabama School of Law. Following graduation, Katie practiced law at Butler Snow LLP in both Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama. In November 2015, she took a leave of absence from the practice of law to serve as Deputy Campaign Manager and Communications Director for Senator Shelby’s most recent reelection campaign.
In August of 2016, Katie became Chief of Staff to Senator Shelby. In this position, she served as the senator’s top advisor on all legal, policy, communications, strategy, leadership, and campaign matters including all fundraising, leadership PAC and campaign operations. Katie worked to develop bipartisan relationships with lawmakers, top committee and leadership staff, and stakeholders to successfully negotiate complex issues and legislation. She directed long-term legislative strategy, plans, and tactics – including all Alabama appropriations issues.
In January of 2019, Katie was selected as President and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama, where she is working to build coalitions and promote unity among the Alabama business community. She is also working to build bridges with elected officials and policy makers at the local, state, and federal levels to support pro-business, pro-economic growth policies that support all sectors of Alabama’s economy: industrial, commercial, small business, tech and health care entrepreneurs.
Katie resides in Montgomery, AL, with her husband, Wesley, her daughter, Bennett, and her son Ridgeway. She serves as President of the Community Affairs Board of Advisors at the University of Alabama and is the former President of the Student Affairs Leadership Council and a former member of the Blackburn Advisory Board.
