Gadsden State’s Valley Street Campus- Jazz Café
Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Valley Street Campus and Office of Student Engagement are celebrating Black History Month with the 2016 Jazz Café. It will be from 9 A.M.- 4 P.M. Feb. 24th at the Student Center. It is free and open to the public.
The event will include café-style study areas for students as well as free coffee, drinks, pastries and popcorn throughout the day. The Gadsden State Show Band will perform at 11 A.M.
The Gadsden State Show Band includes instrumentalists and vocalists who perform jazz hits and pop musical selections. The band is under the direction of Matt Leder.
LaQuentin “Lyrical Forte” Ragland will have spoken word performances throughout the day. Through his performances, the Gadsden native addresses issues such as suicide, substance and alcohol abuse, domestic violence and low self-esteem in teens and young adults.
Photos and memorabilia from the Valley Street Campus’s long history will also be on display. The Valley Street Campus is the area’s only college with the designation of Historically Black College or University.
