Session 10: Public Safety Day

NOTE REQUIRED ATTIRE: Wear comfortable athletic shoes, jeans, and clothes you can move around in for the exercises and demonstrations. DO NOT WEAR skirts or dresses, as we may travel over grate mezzanines that can bee seen through while among incarcerated populations.

Be mindful that we will be meeting with incarcerated men during this day that are in various stages of rehabilitation from addiction and criminal activity and know that they will be open and willing to share stories about their mental health, addiction and their rehabilitation. We are assured that we will be safe at all times. Keep an open mind. If you recognize an individual, please do not address them unless they first address you. No matter what, it is critical that we respect everyone, included inmates. 


7:30 a.m.    Breakfast at the Chamber - bagels, yogurt and fruit sponsored by Chappell, CPA; Michael Barton will introduce the day

7:45 am    Depart from Chamber of Commerce; travel to Gadsden Municipal Airport

8 am    Arrive Gadsden Municipal Airport: Gadsden Fire Department - Mini Fire Academy

9 am    Advantage EM - Brandy Rosson

9:20 am    Snack, restroom, tech break

9:30 am    Depart Gadsden Municipal Airport to Etowah County Sheriff's Office

10 am    Arrive Etowah County Sheriff's Department
                Sheriff's Reserve & Tour of Jail and SAP program by Scott Hassell

11:30 am    Depart ECSO to Gadsden Police Dept Training Facility in East Gadsden

11:45 am    Boxed lunch at training facility, sponsored by Alabama Teachers Credit Union

12:15 pm    Restroom break

12:30 pm    Gadsden Police Dept - 4th Amendment/Force Exercise

1:30 pm    Gadsden Police Dept - Bomb Unit Demonstration

2:15 pm    Depart to City Hall - snacks/tech break/ networking during travel

2:30 pm    Gadsden-Etowah Emergency Management Agency - Deborah Gaither; full table-top exercise in emergency management

4:30 pm    Walk back to Chamber, recap of day, survey
