It’s time to slather on the sunscreen, empty out the trunk of your car, fill up the gas tank, and get ready to head up to Noccalula Falls Park to experience the “World’s Longest Yard Sale,” which runs August 4-7 this year! The Sale is always the first Thursday thru Sunday in August.
The “World’s Longest Yard Sale” has been in existence for 29 years and is now 690 miles long, from Gadsden to Hudson, Michigan. In Gadsden, the Sale starts at Noccalula Falls Park, where hundreds of vendors set up throughout the front of the Park. It’s a great setting to see so many vendors so accessible, and to be able to also enjoy the Park and Noccalula Falls.
It could easily take you two days to explore the Park and all the vendors, but then you just hop in you vehicle and head up Tabor Rd on a “funderful” road trip and slowly work your way up the Lookout Mountain Parkway. As you head north out of Etowah County towards DeKalb County, the roadsides will be covered up with yard sales at almost every house and empty lot. As you head farther north, the sales thin out a touch. Just before you hit the county line, you’ll come across the Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department. This is a great place for lunch or dinner as they serve a great meal. Continue north until you reach the intersection of the Parkway and Hwy 68. There, hundreds of vendors will be set up on all four corners. Continuing north toward Mentone the yard sales again seem to be at every house and open area.
Now, you’ll need a good Sale-specific map for the section of the Sale from Gadsden to Chattanooga. Regular road maps won’t be of much help as they don’t highlight the roads used. Call us (888-565-0411) and we’ll send you the right maps and brochures. Between Gadsden and Chattanooga, keep your eyes open for green rectangle signs that say “Lookout Mountain Parkway.” Even though the road names in the different counties may vary, they are all part of the Parkway.
Some words of advice: Take cash- few vendors have the ability to accept credit cards. Carry lots of water and hydrate often. Have lots of room to carry your purchases in your vehicle. Be careful driving and be on the lookout for cars pulling over or pulling out suddenly. Bring sunscreen and bug spray. Be prepared to haggle and bargain!
Make your Gadsden-area hotel reservations now. The rooms fill up fast and early for the Sale. Feel free to call us at 888-565-0411 or visit our Lodgings page. Have a great World’s Longest Yard Sale experience!
