Job Description
Museum Educator – Imagination Place Children’s Museum
 
Imagination Place Children’s Museum seeks an educator to be responsible for ensuring that museum visitors of all ages have a positive, high-quality experience. A successful candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic, and show initiative.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement programs that align with state and national standards.
  • Provide training so that all staff members can run all programs with confidence.
  • Coordinate with teachers and school staff to support our partnerships and promote museum activities, field trips, and outreaches. 
  • Develop and implement programs, educational camps and other special events.
  • Implement all public programs of the museum including guided tours, field trips, drop-in programs, as well as public and academic outreaches.
  • Work with children and adults of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with large groups of adults and children, providing an entertaining atmosphere for learning through strong presentation skills and an interest in the STEAM initiative.
  • Lead special programming and host weekend birthday parties to various groups.
  • Work independently as well as with a team.
  •  Maintain a high level of customer service.
  • Create engaging and participatory visitor experiences in a welcoming, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Have proficient computer skills.
  • Position requires extended periods of standing, sitting, squatting, and bending. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. 
  • Desire for lifelong learning and ability to think “on the fly”.
  • Effectively communicate with museum director and other departments as needed.
  • Ensure exhibit areas are clean, safe, and orderly, and are reset to be guest ready daily.
  • Assist with special events, promotions, and fundraising activities outside of normal business hours.
  • Perform daily opening and closing duties throughout museum and exhibits such as routine cleaning, restocking, and preparation and maintenance of program materials.
  • Maintain museum exhibits including straightening, cleaning, and disinfecting of existing components and cleanup of children’s spilled food/drink, bodily fluids, etc. as needed.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required and a college degree is preferred. Experience working in a classroom or with children is required. This is a full-time salaried position.
