Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College has generously donated a check to support Carlisle Elementary School’s participation in the Celebrate Science Program hosted by the McWane Science Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Carlisle Elementary is one of 20 schools across Alabama to take part in the prestigious, year-long STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) competition.
Gadsden State President Alan Smith visited the school to present a check to cover the travel expenses.
Through this exciting statewide initiative, a team of 30 Carlisle Elementary students in grades 3–5 will have the opportunity to visit the McWane Science Center and learn firsthand how professional exhibit designers create interactive displays that engage and educate visitors.
Throughout the school year, students will apply what they learn to collaborate on designing and building their own STEM prototypes. These innovative projects will then be entered into the statewide Celebrate Science competition. The winning entries will earn the incredible honor of being showcased at the McWane Science Center for an entire year.
“Gadsden State is proud to support opportunities that inspire young students to explore STEM education,” said Alan Smith, president of Gadsden State Community College. “We believe experiences like this help spark curiosity and creativity, building a strong foundation for the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. With some of the strongest robotics and STEM programs in the Alabama Community College System and across the region, we want to show these young students pathways to future opportunities.”
The Celebrate Science Program is designed to ignite curiosity and creativity in young learners, encouraging them to think critically and explore the real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and math.
Carlisle Elementary and Gadsden State share a common goal — empowering students with opportunities that foster innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
