[ATTALLA, ALABAMA, September 2025] Omaha Track is pleased to announce the opening of its new processing facility in Attalla, Alabama. The facility specializes in processing used railroad ties into high-quality chips for use in co-generation fuel. This new location marks the expansion of Omaha Track’s biomass capabilities into the eastern United States.
City of Attalla Mayor Larry Means called the facility “a great addition to our community” and a “positive step for the future of our city.” The Mayor went on to share his enthusiasm about Omaha Track coming to Attalla, saying, “We’re proud to have them join our community — it’s a meaningful move that adds to the momentum.”
The ties will initially be sourced from the Norfolk Southern. Omaha Track will process the ties into chips which will serve as locally sourced biomass for National Cement, a leading producer of cement. This local biomass source will contribute to National Cement’s ambitious journey to achieving carbon neutrality across its supply chain.
“It has been a pleasure working with National Cement, Norfolk Southern, and the Mayor of Attalla on our first tie processing facility in the East,” shared Omaha Track Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Kelehan. “This is an exciting opportunity for Omaha Track to showcase our 40+ years of excellence and innovation in tie disposal while supporting our partners’ economic and sustainability initiatives.”
Omaha Track is a leading processer of wood crosstie fuel to sustainably serve paper, power and cement industries. The company currently owns and operates multiple locations that process recycled material across the United States. This prime site at Attalla will offer opportunities to grow recycled materials for additional customers and markets.
